Phillips proud of protégés

Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies (XKT) Brakpan president shihan Raymond Phillips is a very pleased instructor following the terrific performance and results of his students who took part in the National Kickboxing Tournament that was held in Pretoria recently.

Eleven XKT Brakpan students participated and brought back the following medals: Ryan Phillips (two gold medals), Frans de Bruyn (two gold medals), Eagan Kruger (three gold medals), Darius Dekker (two gold medals), Brendan Davis (one gold medal and two silver medals), Morne Simpson (one gold medal and one silver medal), Petro de Bruyn (two silver medals), Matthew Gething (one bronze medal).

“The rest of the team, Christiaan Smit and Sharkiroon Peck, fought like true warriors but fell out during the elimination rounds,” said Phillips.

XKT students Ryan Phillips (senior national team), Frans de Bruyn (senior national team), Darius Dekker (junior national team), Eagan Kruger (junior national team), Brendan Davis (junior national team), Bowen Kruger (junior national team) and Petro de Bruyn (senior presidential team) were also selected for the 2018 national and presidential teams.

“It takes hard work and plenty determination to keep on training and pushing for the ultimate goals,” said Phillips, who has been training in the sport for over four decades.

“Never give up, always keep on pushing, even if life pushes you back.

“Train your mind to set goals and become a champion in life.”

Phillips, also the president of Eastern Gauteng Kickboxing, said that overall the province took over 80 fighters to the event.

“As provincial head I have to praise each and every athlete and coach for a job well done.”
