Superb SupaDrift finals await

This weekend promises to be alive with roaring and skidding when drift cars permeate the Brakpan silence.

The SupaDrift Series 6 finals event returns to Carnival City on September 29 and September 30 and it is certainly lined up to be a humdinger of an event.

The 2017 championship is a closely contested event and much of that will be decided upon during the weekend’s battling.

“It sets a precedent for next season and makes for close tandems and insane driving leading up to the final prize-giving,” said Mikey Skelton, XS Promotions marketing director and co-founder of the SupaDrift Series.

Drivers like Jim McFarlane will certainly bring the challenge to the rest of the talented field like series challenger Paolo Gouveia, who has much to prove in this final round for 2017.

Paolo Gouveia won’t give up without a fight at the SupaDrift Series challenge.

Paolo said he has massive respect for his competitors and knows he has to compete and make it count on the blacktop on the 30th (competition day).

Gavin Puren, who stands a chance to be on the podium after the final event added: “No-one can afford to rest.

“It’s the most competitive drift season yet and anything can happen.

“The current track layouts are so challenging, therefore we will have to be on point to impress the judges and keep the competition at bay.”

Eric ‘the Viking’ van Eyssen has also rocked the drift boat this year and is pushing hard for a podium finish in his S14 Nissan 2JZ powered beast.

“It all comes down to the final race. Everyone has something to prove, especially those vying for championship wins and those wanting to keep their sponsors happy for a 2018 deal,” the Viking said. “The event also stages the final Gymkhana GRiD qualifiers for local drivers wanting to get ‘Golden Tickets’ into this year’s most exciting motorsport event.”

The ‘Drum Dash’ has become a familiar term in the 2017 series as drivers are becoming familiar with the Gymkhana requirements and car handling abilities on a different level.

Gymkhana Grid features over 20 international drivers at Carnival City on November 18 and 19, including YouTube sensation and originator, the famous Ken Block.
