Eastern Gauteng cleans up

The Eastern Gauteng u-14 to u-18 junior teams finished off the week by enjoying a momentous clean sweep with gold medals in the u-14, u-16 and u-18 age categories.

The Eastern Gauteng Action Cricket u-18 side brought back gold from Pietermaritzburg.

Eastern Gauteng Action Cricket is excited and proud of their teams which cleaned up at the junior Interprovincial Tournament (IPTs) in Pietermaritzburg from Saturday, July 1 to July 9.

Forty-nine teams participated in the provincial Little League (u-10 age group through to u-13) with Easterns claiming bronze medals in the u-10 and u-11 categories.

Special achievements and individual awards were:

• Tristan Havenga – awarded Best Bowler in the u-11 age group

• Players who made the All Stars side in their age group: Zieg Roos (u-10), Marco Mendes (u-11), Wiehann Smith (u-11), Kyle Schwartz (u-13)

• Selections for the South African training squad in the u-14 junior category: JJ Havenga and Nico Steyn.

The Eastern Gauteng u-14 to u-18 junior teams finished off the week by enjoying a momentous clean sweep with gold medals in the u-14, u-16 and u-18 age categories.

The u-16s also scooped the Plate win.

Special achievements and individual awards in the junior category were:

• Byron Giraudeaux – awarded Best Batsman in the u-14 category

• Christopher Pistorius – awarded Most Valued Player in the u-14 category

• Bryce Parsons – awarded Best Batsman and Most Valued Player in the u-16 category

• Ethan Hughes – awarded Best Bowler in the u-18 category

• Ian Crawshaw – awarded Most Valued Player in the u-18 category.

• Players who made the All Stars side in their age group: Ian Crawshaw, Ethan Hughes, Logan Joubert, Brett Martindale, Deon Mouton, Matthew Wittstock and Glen Chapman.

• Selected to join the South African u-16 training squad: Dylan van Zyl, Brandon Haynes and Liam le Grange.

• Selected to join the South African u-18 training squad: William Harrison, Kian Schwartz, Joshua Taylor, Joshua Britz, Ethan Hughes, Conner Parsons, Bryce Parsons and Bryce Dhooge.

• Shawn Schwartz, Kurtis Thomson and Frank Newberry were selected as officials for the national teams to tour Dubai in 2018.
