Battle of the Roses awaits

All teams will play a minimum of three pool games (round robin) on Friday and Saturday with the top two of each pool progressing to the semi-final and final, on Sunday.

The Eastern Cricket Union’s exciting ‘franchise’ T20 Battle of the Roses cricket tournament will be played at Sahara Park Willowmoore this weekend (Friday to Sunday).

The tournament aims to integrate players from the union’s traditional and emerging clubs, promote stronger competition for emerging players and build relationships between traditional players and emerging players.

Eight franchise teams are drawn in two pools of four.

Pool A consists of the Rising Stars (pre-selected team of u-21 players), Calypso Brothers (defending champions), Wildfire (managed by Kwa Thema Cricket Club) and Sluggers (managed by Alberton Cricket Club).

Pool B consists of the Jets (managed by Kempton Park Cricket Club), Samurai (managed by Benoni Northerns Cricket Club), Bombers (managed by CBC Old Boys Cricket Club) and the Legends (pre-selected team of players over 35 years old).

Fixtures are:

• Friday: 1.30pm: Calypso Brothers vs Rising Stars, 4.45pm: Wildfire vs Sluggers, 8pm: Bombers vs Samurai (all main oval).

• Saturday: 9.30am: Calypso Brothers vs Sluggers (main oval), Rising Stars vs Wildfire (Willowmoore A), Bombers vs Jets (Willowmoore B), Legends vs Samurai (Willowmoore C), 1.30pm: Bombers vs Legends (main oval), Rising Stars vs Sluggers (Willowmoore A), Calypso Brothers vs Wildfire (Willowmoore B), Jets vs Samurai (Willowmoore C), 5.30pm: Legends vs Jets (main oval).

• Sunday: Semi-finals: 10am: winner Pool A vs runner-up Pool B (Willowmoore B), winner Pool B vs runner-up Pool A (Willowmoore C), final: 2pm: winner semi-final one vs winner semi-final two (main oval).
