Club honours high flyers

The Brakpan Racing Pigeon Club held its annual prize-giving function recently, at Hoërskool Die Anker’s hotel school.

“Our club members were fortunate and honoured to be joined by two veteran pigeon fanciers, namely Tinus Janse van Rensburg (honorary president) and Tom Grobler,” said Etienne van der Walt, chairman of the Brakpan Racing Pigeon Club.

The club awarded their five junior members each for their participation and excellent results during the 2016 season.

“We are extremely proud to be the club with the most junior members in the Gauteng Pigeon Union,” added Van der Walt.

Various members were awarded for their individual achievements during the season.

Main award winners are:

• Sportsman of the Year: David Pretorius.

• Best Yearling Bird: Thys Matthysen.

• Best Open Series Bird: Cyril Jasper.

• Best Junior Member: Adriaan du Plessis.

• Single Bird Points (Young Birds): Piet Gerber.

• All Bird Points (Young Birds): Thys Matthysen.

• Single Bird Points (Old Birds): Piet Gerber.

• All Bird Points (Old Birds): Thys Matthysen.

“The Brakpan Racing Pigeon Club had a wonderful 2016 season with a lot to be thankful for.

“We are looking forward to the 2017 season which will commence during May 2017.”

The annual general meeting of the club will take place on Saturday, January 28, at 2pm, at their clubhouse situated at 25 Boundary Avenue.

Anyone interested in the sport is invited to the meeting.
