Future golf stars celebrated at awards

The junior section enjoyed an extremely successful year.

Ekurhuleni Junior Golf celebrated all their juniors’ accomplishments for 2016 at a prize-giving function at Benoni Country Club on November 27.

Junior golfers from Brakpan’s State Mines Country Club featured heavily at the awards with Dylan Mostert, who represented the country this year, claiming top honours as the Player of the Year.

Martin Saaiman, president of the Ekurhuleni Golf Union (EGU), said that the junior section enjoyed an extremely successful year with so many young golfers participating in top provincial and even international tournaments.

He praised everybody involved with junior golf in Ekurhuleni for their passion and for the valuable contributions they have made to develop golfers in the region.

“We cannot express enough our thanks to the parents for their support.”

Awards were presented to:

• Winners of the 2016 EGU Inter-Club Championship: State Mines Country Club team of Dylan Mostert, Donneo Catanho, Casey Jarvis and Vaughn van Deventer. Ricardo Catanho (manager).

• U-13 Player of the Year: Joint award shared between Zamokuhle Nxasana and Christopher Bagnall (finished second and third respectively in the 2016 South African u-13 Championship played at Killarney Golf Club),

• U-13 team: Christopher Bagnall, Nash de Klerk, Kiera Floyd, Zamokuhle Nxasana, Hunter Walker and Jonathan Wilsenach,

• U-15 Player of the Year: Casey Jarvis (State Mines),

• U-17 Player of the Year: Jayden Schaper (Ebotse Links),

• Senior Girl Player of the Year: Casandra Hall (Ebotse Links),

• Junior Girl Player of the Year: Kiera Floyd (Benoni Country Club),

• Most Improved Boy Player of the Year: Ryan van Velzen (Lake Club Benoni),

• Most Improved Girl Player of the Year: Nicole Strydom (Lake Club Benoni),

• Player of the Year Award: Dylan Mostert (State Mines).

The EGU’s u-19 team that will represent the union in the inter-provincial tournament at the White River Golf Club from December 12 to December 16: Nash de Klerk, Burt Gildenhuys, Marco Massiceti, Dylan Mostert (captain), Yurav Premlall, Jayden Schaper, Vaughn van Deventer and Jack Turton (manager).
