Gerber is club’s Young Bird champ

Both of the races were completed by the winning pigeons at an astonishing speed of 1 400 metres per minute.

Piet Gerber has been crowned the Young Bird Series Champion of Brakpan Pigeon Racing Club for 2016.

To pour salt on the wounds of his opponents he managed to win both races on Saturday, September 3, from Middelburg and Noupoort.

Both of the races were completed by the winning pigeons at an astonishing speed of 1 400 metres per minute (approximately 80km per hour over a distance of 670km).

The first pigeon that arrived home for Piet Gerber in the Middelburg race also took an 11th place in the Gauteng Pigeon Union out of approximately 1 500 pigeons entered.

“In order for a pigeon to achieve such brilliant results the pigeon owner needs to be a dedicated person caring for his birds 365 days of the year,” said club chairman Etienne van der Walt.

“Well done Piet Gerber.”
