Young and old take on local MTB race for charity

The Transvaal Galvanisers Mountain Bike (MTB) Race took place from Dalpark Extension One, at the Van Dyk Dam, on Sunday, August 28.

The race was held to raise funds for the Apricot Tree School for children with special needs.

It consisted of 50km, 35km and 10km routes, as well as a 500m kiddies ride.

In the 35km distance it was 17-year-old Ryan Shebab who, like last year, claimed first position.

He completed the race in a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 40 seconds, just ahead of sub-veteran Willie Human (20 years Shabab’s senior), in a time of one hour, 13 minutes and four seconds.

Odette Guy was the first woman home in the 35km race,in with a time of one hour, 18 minutes and 22 seconds.

In the longer 50km race it was elite 25-year-old rider Kai Pritzen who was the first mountain bike rider home.

He crossed the finish line in a time of one hour, 42 minutes and 45 seconds ahead of runner-up sub-veteran Charles Alfred Zeelie, who came home in a time of one hour, 45 minutes and 31 seconds.

The first female rider to cross the 50km finish was sub-veteran Bianca Cooper, who arrived at the finish in a time of two hours, four minutes and 40 seconds.
