Previously known as the Community Cup (Brakpan won bronze in 2013), the tournament is the top competition for non-university rugby union clubs in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The format of the Gold Cup is the same as the Rugby World Cup.

The teams will be divided into four pools, each containing five teams.

They will then play four pool games, playing other teams in their respective pools once.

Each team will play two home games and two away games.

The winner and runner-up of each pool will enter the play-off stage, which consists of a quarter final, semi-final and final.

With provincial club leagues concluding in recent weeks winners have become finalised and fixtures have been made available.

Brakpan’s skipper Francois “Bones” Robbertse and his men will face some difficult opposition in their quest to become the top community team in southern Africa.

They will open proceedings, in Round Two, against the Western Province’s champions, False Bay Rugby Club on Saturday, September 17, at Bosman Stadium, followed by KwaZulu-Natal’s number one club Durban Collegians at Kings Park on Saturday, September 24.

A week later (Saturday, October 1) the team will then make the trek up to White River where they will square up against White River (the Puma champions).

They will play their final group match at Bosman Stadium against Zimbabwe’s top side Old Georgians on Saturday, October 8.

The quarter finals will be played seven days later (Saturday, October 15) and the “Panne” will be hoping to be in the mix.

The semi-finals follow that on Saturday, October 22.

The final is scheduled for Saturday, October 29.

Times of matches will be published when they become available.
