Brakpan wrestlers impress in Algeria

It was a successful spell at the Cadet African Championships for Brakpan Wrestling Club’s cadet representatives on the mat Matthew Bartlett and Ondrej Dvoulety.

Dvoulety returned to South Africa with a bronze medal while Bartlett earned a silver medal despite his goal of winning gold.

He, however, defeated both Egyptian counterparts who defeated him in his two previous appearances at the championships.

He suffered a 3-10 loss to an Algerian opponent in the final.

“Both boys’ efforts on the mat were of such good quality that they were selected by United World Wrestling (UWW) to stay on for an additional 10 days to take part in a training camp that they had organised for the top cadet wrestlers in Africa called More than Medals,” said Gussie Bartlett, Brakpan Wrestling Club’s secretary.

“There were only seven wrestlers selected from South Africa for this prestigious camp and Brakpan Wrestling club’s two top cadets managed to secure two of the seven spots.

“They returned to South Africa on Monday, July 25, exhausted, but with a bucketload of new skills and experience.”

Bartlett was selected for the world squad that will leave for Georgia on Saturday, September 10.
