Brakpan brutalise Boksburg

Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV are back in the pinnacle position in the 2016 Valke Peregrine League after bombarding old rivals Boksburg 61-16 away from home on Saturday, May 14.

The result is a fantastic one for the “Panne” as nearest rivals Vereeniging drew with East Rand United at home and lost to Springs the week prior.

It was the go-to men and speedsters Leon “Sweef” Potgieter, Juanrich Botha and Thinus Ueckermann who again ran the show in wet and cold conditions at Prince George Park.

The trio dotted down on six occasions out of the nine overall tries on the day.

Potgieter showed his class again by rounding off a hat-trick of five-pointers.

Another shining light was former Boksburg fly-half Ashley Buchler who converted eight of the nine tries.

Bad news for Brakpan was the fact that lock forward Dwane Morrison suffered a concussion that could keep him out of action for a number of weeks.

Try scorers for Brakpan on Saturday were Sweef Potgieter (three), Juanrich Botha (two), Thinus Ueckermann, Shaun Botes, Ian Oosthuizen and Pierre Foordt. Conversions: Ashley Buchler (eight).
