The Brakpan Racing Pigeon Club, whose clubhouse is situated at 25 Boundary Road, has elected a new club management committee for 2016.

The newly elected management members are Etienne van der Walt (chairman), Christo Kamffer (vice-chairman), André Smit (racing secretary), Wilhelm du Plessis (secretary), Hennie Groenewald (ring steward), Pietie Gerber (additional member) and Hennie du Plooy (additional member).

The 2016 racing pigeon season will commence on Saturday, May 26.

The first race will take place from Winburg, approximately 280km (depending where the pigeon-fancier lives).

Depending on the wind and weather conditions, the race can be completed in about 3.5 hours.

The final race for the season will be on September 22, when the pigeons will be liberated from Beaufort West (approximately 880km).

Depending on the wind and weather conditions, this race can be completed in 11 to 12 hours.

Members of the public who are interested in becoming members of the club are invited to make contact with the secretary on 072 837 1945, and are also invited to the next club meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at 7pm.

Racing Pigeons are extremely valuable to their owners and members of the public who might find stray or injured racing pigeons are encouraged and requested to report these to the ring steward on 079 636 9889.
