Fight season starts at Carnival

Saturday, March 5 sees one of the most anticipated fight cards in EFC history take place with the first event of the year, EFC 47, at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena.

The first fight card of 2016 is headlined by a championship title fight and the ultimate dream match-up.

Recently crowned featherweight champion, Scotland’s Danny Henry, looks to cement his legacy with his first title defence.

Standing in his way of divisional domination is the undefeated wrestling champion Igeu ‘Smiley’ Kabesa.

Riding a massive six-fight winning streak, the DRC-born phenomenon not only seeks his own glory, but also revenge for his teammate Boyd Allen, who lost his title to Henry late last year.

Two fan favourites and South African MMA superstars collide in a phenomenal match-up that sees champion and former champion meet each other in the hexagon for the first time in history.

Lightweight champion Leon ‘Iron Lion’ Mynhardt is set to face former champion Boyd Allen in a three-round super fight.

Johannesburg’s newly invigorated war machine, Brendon Katz, is looking to prove he is back to his old aggressive ways when he takes on Durban’s seemingly unstoppable Sizwe Mnikathi.

For the first time in history, two of South Africa’s best female fighters, Jacqualine ‘Demolition Jacqui’ Trosee and Amanda ‘Mad Dog’ Lino are to face each other inside the EFC hexagon.

Another showstopping fight is expected when the electrifying Tumisang ‘The President’ Madiba and former title contender Barend ‘BB Gun’ Nienaber clash.

There are also six more exciting preliminary bouts to look forward to when the card gets under way at 5.15pm.

The main card starts at 8pm.
