Great cycle race coming up

Carnival City presents the annual Macsteel Cycle Classic race on February 21, 2016.

Gear up and get your cleats on, it’s almost time for the ever popular Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic on February 21.

Held two weeks before the Argus Cycle Tour, the Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic is a South African Cycling sanctioned event which attracts thousands of entries every year.

This year is the 32nd edition of the event and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The 2016 Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic comprises a 121km route for the Elite Men and Licensed Vets (aged 30 to 49).

The customary route will remain the same for the 103km and 65km road races (u-16 licensed boys must enter the 103km event).

Once again, Champion Chip will be used to provide accurate timing and results for this event and all cyclists are required to make use of it.

Cyclists who do not have a chip can purchase one with their entry.

Race organisers receive no financial benefit from this event and all proceeds will go to Rotary community projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers charity projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

The event starts and ends at Carnival City where there is plenty of secure parking, a welcome selection of restaurants and fast food outlets and activities for children.

“This is a popular event in the cycling community and it is fantastic to see how the support for the race grows each year.

“If you aren’t entering the race, bring your family down to Carnival City to watch the cyclists cross the finish line,” said Carnival City’s marketing manager, Michelle Smith.

All proceeds for the “ride for charity” event will be donated to deserving, non-profit organisations and community projects.

Online entries are open on www.championchip.co.za until February 15.
