Wet wicket causes frustration

Rainy weather is always gladly received across the country, but it is not always a cricketer’s best friend.

This was the case for the unbeaten Brakpan-based United Cricket Club Premier XI, who saw their nearest rivals, Kempton Park Cricket Club, move to within three points of them on the Eastern Premier League table, after their scheduled away match against Springs Old Boys, at Pollak Park in Springs, was called off due to a wet wicket, without a delivery having been bowled.

Each of the teams received two rain points, as a result, but Kempton Park edged closer to the league-leaders as they managed to get a full game in against Duduza Cricket Club and to secure a bonus point victory.

With the teams set to meet at Barnard Stadium, in Kempton Park, in a first versus second tussle, the result could prove to be decisive in the chase for top spot.

Both sides will be at full strength for the match, which is set to be a fierce spectacle of club cricket.
