Woest’s good innings continues

Brakpan resident and talented female cricketer, Karen Woest (15), recently returned home from Brisbane, Australia, where she captained the u-18 South African girls action cricket team that competed in the Indoor Junior World Series.

Woest showed her immense abilities by being the only South African player who played in all of the team’s 10 matches.

This included one warmup and nine World Series games.

The young cricketer scored 133 runs in total and took seven wickets in the series. Woest also raked in the top honours as the best u-18 girls bowler in four matches, the best u-18 girls batsman on three occasions and as one of the best female cricketers in her age group, she was included in the All Star team for u-18 girls.

Woest’s stellar performance meant she was the only South African player selected for this elite team.

Her focus now turns to outdoor club cricket where she plays for Duduza’s women’s team in the Eastern Women’s League.

Woest scored her first century (113 not out) in a match against Vosloorus on Saturday, October 10.
