‘Panne’ must wait another week

Brakpan Rugby Club’s four sides will have to wait another week before they get back into the swing of things in competitive league rugby.

Initially set to kick-off their pursuit of 2016 Cell C Community Cup in the Valke Peregrine League this Saturday, April 11, the Bosman Stadium based club will have to wait a bit longer before stepping onto the field again.

This comes after the Valke Rugby Union reshuffled the league fixtures to include Vaal Reefs and Klerksdorp from the Leopards Rugby Union (Potchefstroom).

In reality it means four more extra matches for Brakpan Rugby Club this season, but it also means that the club will have a bye this weekend and will have to wait another week to play.

After the first and second XVs lifted the Assupol Super Series Cup the club is extremely eager to get going in the regional league.

“All our teams are ready to go after doing extremely well in the Assupol competition, however the layoff time and the new playing schedule is not doing us any favours” said Harry Nieuwenhuis, chairman of Brakpan Rugby Club.

He added that the goal of the first team in the Peregrine League is to maintain the strong form they showed during the Assupol tournament.

The chairman described qualification for the Community Cup as “non-negotiable” for every team at Brakpan Rugby Club.

Nieuwenhuis said that the club will not take anything for granted this time round.

“It takes a great deal of hard work and dedication to stay at the top.

“We have 100 per cent trust in all of our coaches to achieve the best results for the club this season.”

Following the bye-week on Saturday, the club’s u-20, u-21, second and first teams will commence with their first fixture against NWU Vaal in Vereeniging on Saturday, April 18, followed by a big clash with rivals Boksburg the week after.
