These ‘Oaks’ are champions

Royal Oak Country Club’s 2015 Club Championships took place recently and the members were in for a challenging two days of golf.

Club professional and golf director Kenneth Dube said that this year’s championships went extremely well.

“The course was well-set and some impressive golf was played by all the members,” said Dube.

He congratulated all the champions, particularly A-Division winner Stewart Chitambo on defending the title which he won last year and described the champion as “one helluva player”.

Chitambo shot rounds of 75 and 76.

“Kenneth set-up quite a tough course and the pin locations were especially challenging,” said the club champion, who has been a member at Royal Oak for three and a half years.

“It’s a good feeling to win and defend my title.

“I am working towards turning professional, so this is an important and motivating step for me.”

Jackie Burger, a member at the club for 15 years, was the winner of the B-Division, shooting 82 and 81, while Dewald Kotze was victorious in the C-Division after shooting 85 and 79 during the championship.

Bongiwe Dube became the club’s women’s champion after shooting 79 and 83.

“The greens were not too fun as they were quite hard,” she said.

“The pin placements were crazy and the rough was quite challenging and thick.”

She added that was extremely proud about winning the trophy.
