Goalless draw for Dalpark

Brakpan-based Dalpark Football Club (DFC) played Chelsea in a Benoni South Local Football Association Division One encounter, on Saturday, March 7.

The game was played at an extremely fast pace in hot conditions at the high school grounds in Actonville, Benoni.

DFC’s coach Brian Fray described the game as “one of two halves”.

“We played terribly in the first half, and could have been down by a couple of goals, and our defence was quite shaky,” he said.

“I must give credit to our goalkeeper Matthew Boodram, playing in his second game for the team, he kept us in the game in the first halve with some excellent saves.”

The DFC XI regrouped nicely in the second half and stepped up their performances, but could just not find the back of their opposition’s net as the game petered out into a 0-0 draw.

“We are playing good football at the moment, although our decision-making in the final third of the pitch has left a lot to be desired.

“I feel that some of the players do not believe in themselves and their abilities, so we will need to go back to the drawing board and start working hard on improving the mental strength of the boys.”
