Hat-trick of wins for Louwrens

The Rock Raceway circuit was alive with activity as a full house of spectators settled in for a memorable night of motorsport, with Rockmania, on Saturday, January 17.

The event and the circuit did not disappoint and a full complement of oval drifting and drag races were provided to entertain the Rock Raceway faithful.

In the Lexus V8 class it was Brakpan driver Rieckerd Louwrens who pulled off a hat-trick to win all three heats in the V8 class.

With his father, Basie, in the field, too, and a field of nine other eager contenders all vying for bragging rights on the podium, as well as silverware, the younger Louwrens definitely felt the heat and he had his hands full in trying to fend off his opposition.

Louwrens held firm in the first heat, with a pack of drivers on his tail for the first four laps.

Fancy footwork was required to fend off the chasers and to win the heat

The second heat was a pole invert, which meant that the local racer had to start at the back of the pack.

Louwrens timed his start to a T and, as the green flag dropped for heat two, he stormed past a string of cars in the first few laps.

It was touch-and-go at times and no love was lost between the drivers, but Louwrens did well to claim this race.

With pole position in the final heat, the driver again dominated the race to make it three in a row in the heats.

He thanked his sponsors, parents and supporters for backing him in his racing ventures.

The local driver will be in action again, at the next Rock Raceway event, on Saturday, February 14.
