Tough SA Open for local pro

The golf director and club professional at the Royal Oak Country Club, Kenneth Dube, did not have the best two days on the fairways and greens of Glendower Golf Club, during the first and second rounds of the South African Open, hosted by Ekurhuleni, on Thursday and Friday, January 8 and 9.

Dube shot 79 on the Thursday and 80 on the Friday, which put him among those who missed the cut.

The local professional did, however, do extremely well to qualify for one of the oldest open tournaments in golf, after carding a fantastic 66 at the SA Open qualifier, at Irene Country Club, the previous week.

Speaking about his experience at Glendower, Dube said: “It was an extremely tough golf course to play, but I enjoyed the experience a lot.

“To play with some of the big names in golf was really great.”

He added that he will now turn his attention to the Joburg Open, the Africa Open and the Tshwane Open.
