Van der Merwe cleans up at awards

Brakpan Rugby Club held their annual prize-giving and year-end function at the club, recently.

The club’s brilliant lock forward Dean van der Merwe was the star of the show, scooping the most awards on the night.

He helped lead the team to Valke Peregrine success earlier in the year and will be unfortunate not to be showcasing his talents in the 2015 edition of the Cell C Community Cup.

Prize-winners on the night are:

Senior Sportsman of the Year: Dean van der Merwe.

Most Valued Player of the Year: Dean van der Merwe.

Forward Player of the Year: Dean van der Merwe (William Hunter Trophy).

Players’ Player of the Year: Dean van der Merwe (Jansen Nel Trophy).

Top Points Scorer of the Year: PJ Beukes.

Junior Sportsman of the Year: Tinus Ueckerman.

Most Improved Player: Johan Vermeulen.

The “Gees” Trophy was awarded to the Lilywhites (second team) for their contribution playing in the Assupol final and for winning the Valke Second Team Trophy, as well.

Backline Player of the Year (Chairman’s Trophy): Franco Booysen.
