The Brakpan Pigeon Club’s birds flew from Hanover, 660km away, for week 11 of racing.
The young birds were liberated on Saturday, August 16, at 7.15am, with only a few birds reaching home by Saturday night.
The first bird home belonged to Piet Fourie who clocked in at 5.38.40pm with a winning speed of 1 058.091mpm.
Second place went to CX Hokkie (partners Hennie Pienaar and Frik Smith), whose bird clocked in at 5.45.48pm with a speed of 1 040.523mpm.
Louis du Plooy took third place. His bird was timed at 5.55.11pm with a speed of 1 022.767mpm.
The open birds went up at 7.45am on Saturday and Mark Viljoen’s bird was the first home, at 5.56.06pm, with a speed of 1 071.874mpm, followed by Ruan Booyse, who timed at 6.00.35pm with a speed of 1 070.594mpm.
Third place went to CX Hokke, whose bird clocked in at 6.04.36pm, with a speed of 1 059.331mpm.
