Second Bloemfontein race held

This week, Brakpan Pigeon Racing Club held their second Bloemfontein race of the season (about 390km) on Saturday, June 28.

It was a tough race with a north-easterly wind and dense cloud cover.

The young birds were liberated at 8.45am and the open birds at 9.30am.

The young birds were home at 2.03pm and the open birds at 2.45pm.

Piet Fourie won the young bird race with a speed of 1 231.317mpm, and was followed by one of the club’s junior racers, Kevin Kok, with a speed of 1 216.892mpm.

André Smit, flying as Smit Familie, placed third, with a speed of 1 207.892mpm.

Hennie Pienaar and Frik Smith, flying as CX Hokke, claimed the number one spot in the open bird race, with a speed of 1 239.328mpm, while Hennie Botha placed second with 1 238.246mpm and the Smit Familie was third, with a speed of 1231.364mpm.
