United win in confident fashion

Following a nervy victory at home against Tembisa, on Sunday, January 26, United Cricket Club’s Premier XI met Boksburg Cricket Club at Hosking Park, on Sunday, February 2.

The Brakpan-based outfit were keen to keep that winning feeling going against their visitors, who have been battling in this season’s Eastern Premier League.

Skipper Justin Gamble’s team have had their fair share of injury concerns, but stepped up nicely against their Boksburg counterparts with the players they had available.

It was the “Dian Moore Show” for the Premier team, as the part-time seamer fulfilled his captain’s faith in him by picking up figures of four wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs.

This terrific display with the leather saw the Boksburg team all out within 26 overs, for a low total of 117 runs.

JP van Staden (32 not out) was the highest scoring batsman for the away side.

In United’s batting innings it was Moore who again led the way.

He played well with the bat to score 54 runs and set the tone for a successful run chase, despite the loss of three United wickets.

The next best batsman was Ryan Bond, who notched up 23 runs.

The home team completed the win in the 29th over.

“It was an extremely confident and brilliant win for the boys,” said team manager Des Gamble.

“We did exactly what we needed to do; our bowlers bowled and our batsmen batted.”

He added that both of the club’s teams have been riddled with injuries and that has required different players to step up to the plate for United.

“Boksburg have been on a real downslide lately, so we needed to capitalise on that,” he said.

“We are very proud of the lads for another win and now look ahead to an away match at CBC Old Boys on Sunday.”

The first ball of the match against CBC Old Boys is scheduled to be bowled at 9.30am.
