Metro’s excuse is rubbish

I suspect the Brakpan refuse removal trucks are being used to clear refuse from other areas.

‘Concerned resident’ writes by email:

The response provided by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe (”Erratic refuse removal irks resident”, April 22) refers:

Ironically the trucks are broken down, yet I have seen the white refuse truck driving around Brakpan during the week without picking up refuse.

They do this only on Saturdays, when overtime payment is allocated.

I have seen the refuse removed only from selected residents; the workers do not whistle as per the norm nor switch on the orange strobe light to let residents know that that are picking up refuse.

I wonder how the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality justifies monthly charges against all Brakpan residents for refuse removal when the service is not provided, no alternative plan of action was implemented, and for five weeks the council has been quiet on the problem – there was no information on the Ekurhuleni website.

I suspect the Brakpan refuse removal trucks are being used to clear refuse from other areas outside Brakpan and, as a result, they cannot service the Brakpan area.
