Brakpan: A post-apocalyptic town

Peter Bachtis writes by e-mail: Driving through the Brakpan CBD is like driving through a post-apocalyptic scene of wanton destruction.

The area around the Brakpan railway station is reminiscent of the Brakpan garbage dumping grounds on a very bad day.

The old station hotel is like a building, left standing after the atomic bomb landed on Nagaski. Doors have been removed and windows broken – such a pitiful site.

Taking pride in the town’s environment is clearly not on top of the Mayor’s agenda as filth, grime and a rat infestation engulf this once attractive and clean town.

I suggest that a day be taken by every school child and every single staff member of the council to clean up Brakpan. Hopefully this will be a sort of penance for not caring enough and not keeping the town clean.
