The Herald has received comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department in response to a letter about the lack of traffic policing in Kenleaf.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago responded as follows: “The precinct commander, who has been responsible for the area since June, 2014, has never received a complaint of this nature, and his officers, in their daily duties, haven’t experienced a problem that is out of the ordinary in the said location.

“Nevertheless, attention will be given to the location with a view to resolving any problems that can be witnessed by the officers.

“The officers have monitored the location closely since Monday, January 26, to date (February 2).

“Their efforts yielded the following: On Monday, January 26, four fines were issued for driving without a licence, two for driving without a professional driving permit and three for not stopping at a stop sign.

“On Tuesday, January 27, Wednesday, January 28, and Thursday, January 29, no motorists committed offences.

“Since then, routine and visibility patrols have resulted in the motorists behaving well.

“Periodic monitoring will be done to ensure that offenders have the book thrown at them.
