Pavements are an eyesore

Brad Fibiger writes by email: This is what the pavements in parts of Brakpan look like, once the squatters from Plastic City have gone through the bins and bags of paying customers.

It is too much work for the municipality’s rubbish removal truck and guys to pick it up.

Disgusting.

Some people may be used to living like this, but not me.

If the municipality can’t do their work properly, then get people who will and can do the job.

Residents were given black bins on wheels, but these have slowly been disappearing from the houses.

If no one is at home to bring it in once the trucks have been, chances are it won’t be there when you get home from work.

This is on the corner of Brakpan Street and George Street, Anzac, and it is not a once-off thing.

This happens at least twice a month.

I have searched the net and can’t seem to get an email address for the Brakpan Municipality, as I would love them to see how their workers leave the streets of Brakpan.

Editor’s note: Comment was requested from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and the following response was received from spokesperson Themba Gadebe:

“Upon doing investigations, the City’s Waste department discovered that there is a panel beater shop at the address,” he said.

“The municipality issued out a notice and rerouted one of the litter pickers to clean the area every day.”
