Cancer project has touched our hearts

Mary Cronje writes by email: This is an ultimate thank you for giving us the opportunity as residents to participate in the The Pink Trees for Pauline awareness project for cancer.

It has a far more and deeper meaning to us as a family.

It has touched our hearts and brought a special memory to our lives.

My mother, Margaret was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.

She underwent the chemo and radiation treatment and in 2012 they declared her cancer in remission.

Regretfully in May this year my mom was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 cancer.

The devastating news did not make her lose hope or faith.

We still prayed and hoped for a miracle to happen.

Sadly my mom passed away on October 5.

We feel honoured that we could have shared the wrapping of our tree in pink material before her passing.

It made her feel special, loved and most of all that she had all the support she needed.

We were so proud to say, mom this is for you, our deep founded love for you and for others who are fighting cancer, for the families of cancer patients and for those who have lost the battle with cancer.

We have walked every step of my mother’s challenge with her and it was it all worthwhile sharing this experience with her in her final steps of life.

It is a great privilege that we were able to go through the struggle with my mother and although she did not make it coming out with us on the other end, we can share tips and encouragement to others who are embarking on a new diagnosis.

Let’s support the awareness about cancer as it is communicated through what we do, we can add to the quality of life of the cancer community.

It sure added to our life.
