In the spotlight

Getting to know Charles Sekhosana.

When you walk through the gates of Brenthurst Primary School, Charles Sekhosana’s is the first friendly face you’ll see. The 23-year-old has been employed at the school as a groundsman for about six months and lives in KwaThema with his sister, Vivian (22).

• What does your job entail?

I monitor the entrance and exit of all visitors to the school. It is very important to me to make sure the children are safe.

I also assist with the scholar patrol and maintain the school and garden.

• What do you like most about your job?

I get to meet a lot of different people and I learn from them.

• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I enjoy going out with my friends.

I also love music and DJing.

My favourite music is house, deep house and hip hop.

• How would the learners at Brenthurst Primary School describe you?

I think they would have good things to say about me because they like me.

There are a few cheeky children, but most are respectful.

• What is your dream job?

I would love to have my own logistics company one day.

• Where do you see yourself in five years?

Graduating with a degree or diploma in logistics management.

I have already applied to study part-time through Unisa.

• If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Poverty. Everyone deserves a good life.

• If you could keep only five possessions, what would they be and why?

My job, house, computer, cellphone and DJing gear.

They make my life better and happier.

• What is your favourite thing about Brakpan?

Mall@Carnival. I go there with my friends to shop, watch movies or to get something to eat.
