Getting to know Capt Mamaratwa Ramohlola.

Capt Mamaratwa Ramohlola (52), from the local SAPS, is the manager for Sector Three in Brakpan.

Sector Three comprises Brenthurst, Vulcania, Maryvlei Industrial, Sallies Village, Mkhankwa Village, Sallies Hostel, Ergo Plant, Vulcania South and Western Platinum.

Ramohlola lives in Brakpan and is married to Patricia.

The captain has four children: Palesa (21), Maphefo (18), Mthati (14) and Banetse (6).

• For how long have you been with the SAPS?

Thirty-one years.

• What sparked your interest in policing?

Fighting crime.

• What do you like most about your job?

The interaction with the community.

• What is your least favourite part of the job?

Crime prevention.

• If you weren’t a police officer, what would you be?

An electrical engineer.

• Would you let your family members/children do this job?

Yes.

• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I enjoy sports.

• What are you most afraid of?

God.

• What motivates you?

Wearing my police uniform.

• What advice would you give to young people wanting to work in the SAPS?

You have to be passionate.

The community is made up of people from all races.
