Brandon Pretorius (22), from the Democratic Alliance, is the new ward councillor for Ward 97. The newlywed, who married Sinteach (23) three weeks ago, lives in Brakpan North. His ward is made up of the following areas: Brakpan CBD, Brakpan North, Brenthurst, Anzac and New State Areas (Springs).
• What are your immediate plans for the ward?
I intend working on issues that can be solved immediately.
This to me is basic service delivery issues like potholes, sewerage, streetlights etc.
For the bigger issues in the ward I am going to follow the correct structures to make sure they do not go unnoticed.
• How to you intend to help the residents of your ward?
I would like to start by making sure each resident understands the process to be followed when logging a complaint.
If the complaint has been logged and the resident received a reference number, and this complaint has not been dealt with, I will then make sure that the resident’s issue gets resolved.
I will also represent my residents in council in a professional manner and make sure that their concerns are raised at the right structures.
I will make sure that I am available at any time to assist as far as I can.
• There is a lot of development going on in Brakpan, where do you see the town in five years?
Brakpan as a town has grown a lot and I think this is just the beginning of growth for us.
I believe that five years from now we will be one of the most successful towns in Ekurhuleni.
Brakpan will no longer be the joke on everyone’s lips
• For how long have you been a member of the DA?
I have been a member for the past four years and worked on the Herman Mashaba campaign in Johannesburg which was a great honour and experience.
• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?
I play golf and enjoy working out at they gym.
• What or who inspires you?
I would have to say I get inspired every day by someone else.
It is the people around us, the people of South Africa, who give me the courage to go out and reach my goals.
I get inspired by them when I see what greatness they have achieved.
• How would your friends describe you?
Serious when I work, but a clown when I play.
