Drone used to fight crime in Dalpark Ext 1

Residents turn to drone to help deal with crime.

Efforts by the Dalpark Ext 1 community to combat crime are bearing fruit.

Residents of the suburb recently contributed money towards the purchase of a drone, which has been instrumental in the recovery of stolen goods and the apprehension of suspects.

The drone is operated by a licenced pilot from CP Armed Response. The latest success took place during the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

A Skamel Road resident raised the alarm at around 01:30 after his home security system was triggered.

Upon investigation, it was found burglar bars to the house were broken and a laptop and sound system had been stolen.

“The CP team immediately mobilised with the drone and headed into the veld,” said resident Bart Zaayman.

“The suspects were spotted carrying the stolen goods in the veld behind the mine dumps.

“The security team gave chase and managed to apprehend two of the three suspects.

“The stolen sound system was recovered, as well as a bag full of implements used to break into homes.”

Zaayman stated that Aldicarb, commonly known as Two-Step and used by criminals to poison dogs, was also found in the possession of the nabbed suspects.

“We thank everyone who contributed to the drone and helped us become a much more effective crime-fighting team,” he added.
