Two hijackings in two hours

Hijackers exploited the kindness of the one of the victims, who had agreed to help them.

Two motorists were robbed of their vehicles in separate hijackings in Brakpan on Tuesday morning.

According to local police, the first incident took place along Springs Road in Denneoord at around 09:00.

The victim, travelling in a white Toyota Hilux, was stationary at the traffic lights when a white Volkswagen Golf passed through the red light and stopped in front of his vehicle.

The Golf had two male occupants and the driver got out and ran towards the victim with a firearm. The gunman reached in through the open driver’s side window and pulled the keys from the ignition.

He then opened the door and told the victim to move over. The victim was driven to a secluded area along the R23 towards Heidelberg and told to get into the boot of the Golf.

He was tied up with shoelaces. It is not reported where the victim was released. The hijackers also took the victim’s cellphone.
