R20k worth of illicit substances seized in ongoing drug operation

The EMPD arrested a man in Brakpan for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances.

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) cracked down on a foreign national found in possession of R20 000 worth of illicit substances.

The man was arrested in Brakpan at about 15:00 on Monday.

With several drug-related arrests being made in recent weeks, the EMPD is exhausting all resources to keep the City of Ekurhuleni free from drug syndicates.

DEU officers apprehended the 34-year-old male Nigerian national on High Street after receiving information from a reliable source about this individual who continued selling drugs to members of the community, even after a prior arrest was made.

“Officers swiftly approached the suspect and upon searching him, discovered 55 plastic packages with kat and 120 ziplock bags with kat, with an estimated value of R20 000,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

“The handcuffed suspect was marched to the Brakpan Police Station and charged with possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, as well as contravention of Section 49 (1) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002).

“The EMPD applauds its members for their tireless efforts that serve the people of the City of Ekurhuleni.”
