Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from September 9 to 11.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Two vehicles were stolen. A grey Ford Ranger was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre while another car (make and model not provided) was stolen from Dirk van der Hoff Street in Rand Collieries.

• A man walking along the N17 highway near Dalpark in search of a taxi was robbed at gunpoint by two men.

The robbers attacked the man at around 17:00. They fled with a bag which contained the victim’s work uniform and other clothes.

• A woman walking home along Escombe Avenue at 17:30 was robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a gun.

The victim was instructed not to make any noise and the robbers demanded her cellphone. They took her laptop, a pair of earphones and a pair of new shoes.

• TVs, speakers, a microwave, clothes and other household goods were burgled from a home in Hamilton Avenue.

Saturday – The driver of a black Mercedes-Benz was assaulted and robbed after stopping at a traffic light along Station Road at 02:00.

A BMW and a white Volkswagen Polo stopped near the victim’s car. Four men got out of the BMW and approached the victim.

He was dragged out of his vehicle and assaulted. Three men from the Polo then searched the victim’s car. The group of men then all fled.

The victim made his way back to his car and discovered his 9mm pistol, two cellphones, cash, bank cards and other valuables had been stolen.

• Steel valued at hundreds of thousands of rand was stolen during a break-in at a business along Springs Road in Witpoort Estates.

• A home in Bester Street, Minnebron, was broken into and cables were stolen.

Sunday – A motorist who stopped to urinate at the side of the road was robbed by two men at gunpoint. The incident took place along 1st Road in Witpoort Estates at 06:45.

The duo took the victim’s cellphone and searched his vehicle where they helped themselves to another cellphone, some cash and the victim’s driver’s licence. They then instructed the victim to get in his vehicle and go.

• A guitar and other valuables were stolen during a burglary at a residence along Witpoortjie Road in Rand Collieries.

• A blue Honda motorbike was stolen from an address along Wenden Avenue.

• A man was arrested at a Hamilton Avenue home after he was caught on the premises. The kitchen door had been forced open and the intruder was found in possession of an item from the house.
