Arrested group linked to other crimes

The men were apprehended after task team members received a tip-off.

Five men linked to cases of robbery were nabbed by Ekurhuleni District SAPS Task Team members in Leachville on Friday.

“The members received a tip-off at around 12:30 about a suspicious-looking white Nissan Almera driving from Brakpan along New Kleinfontein Road,” said Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad.

“The occupants attempted to flee from their vehicle but the police enclosed them.”

A search of the Almera yielded handguns, a shotgun, cellphones and other items. Van Staad told the Herald the men are linked to several robbery cases in Brakpan, Tsakani and Duduza.

They were detained at the Brakpan Police Station and face various charges.

Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck thanked the task team members for their swift response and the community for being the eyes and ears of the police.
