Couple hijacked in driveway

The woman was opening the gate for her husband when a man forced her into the car at gunpoint.

Hijackers continue to prowl the streets of Brakpan with a couple falling victim to three of these criminals on August 16.

The Brakpan Herald recently reported on a spike in hijackings, especially in Brakpan Central, with police urging residents to be alert when leaving or returning home (‘Hijackings on the increase’, August 12).

Last Tuesday evening, three gunmen pounced on the driver of a black Honda Accord when he arrived home just after 19:00.

According to Brakpan SAPS, the man pulled into the driveway of his Hamilton Street residence and was waiting for his wife to open the gate when the trio approached them.

One of the gunmen grabbed the wife and forced her into the car. The driver was pushed to the back seat and the hijackers drove off with both of them.

The couple was driven to Brakpan North where they were let go in a veld.

In addition to the vehicle, the hijackers also took three cellphones and a handbag containing cash. Groceries and household appliances were in the stolen vehicle.
