Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from July 29 to 31.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – A woman was robbed at the corner of Gordon Street and Kitzinger Avenue after withdrawing money in the CBD.

The victim was driving home at about 11:00 when the driver of a blue Volkswagen Golf stopped in front of her vehicle, blocking her path.

A passenger in the Golf climbed out and walked to the victim’s car, opened the door and reached inside.

The victim started to reverse her car and the man grabbed her cellphone and cash she had placed between the seats.

The thief returned to the Golf and drove off. The victim followed the car until the driver stopped, climbed out and fired a shot in the air.

The victim drove away and saw the Golf following. She managed to elude them and made her way safely home.

• A residence in Prince George Avenue was burgled of a TV valued at R9 000.
A suspect was arrested in connection with the incident and the TV was recovered.

Saturday – Three men came to the rescue of a woman being attacked along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville.
The victim was walking home at 18:30 when she was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife.

He demanded money and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her into the middle of the road.

He then dragged her to the other side of the road where the victim attempted to fight him off and sustained a stab wound to her hand.

A Toyota Quantum stopped on the roadside and three men got out of the taxi and came to the victim’s aid.

They took the victim and her attacker to the police station where the man was arrested and detained for attempted robbery.

Sunday – A music system and a DVD player were stolen during a break-in at an address at the corner of Cavendish Street and Wenden Avenue.
