Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from January 13 to 15.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – A Toyota Hilux was stolen from Carnival City.

• A home in Alexandria Avenue, Dalview, was burgled of a TV and a cellphone.

Saturday – A robbery was reported at a Dalview petrol station.

The incident took place at around 02:40 and was carried out by four men travelling in a white Renault.

Staff were threatened at gunpoint and robbed of their cellphones and cash.

The robbers also took money, cigarettes and an airtime vending machine from the shop on the premises.

• A female taxi commuter was robbed by three occupants of a white Toyota Quantum.

The victim boarded the taxi along Gloucester Street in Kenleaf at around 18:30.

Once they reached the corner of Van der Walt Road and Cardigan Street in Dalview, the man sitting next to the victim pointed a knife at her and instructed her to lie down.

A man in the front passenger seat threatened her with a gun.

The victim was searched and robbed of the two bags she was carrying.

These contained a laptop, a laptop charger, a cellphone charger, a pair of shoes and toiletries.

The also took her cellphone and then dropped her off at an undisclosed location.

• A lone gunman made off with cash and cigarettes after robbing a Voortrekker Road supermarket at 19:30.

The robber threatened the shop’s owner with a gun and instructed him to empty the till.

He also demanded the man’s cellphone and searched him.

When his search yielded no results, the robber helped himself to five cartons of cigarettes and fled the scene.

• A Hoy Avenue business was broken into and goods valued at R50 000 were stolen.

Sunday – A church along Queen Avenue was burgled of a TV and other valuables.

• A spaza shop in the Plastic City informal settlement was burgled.

A generator, solar panels, batteries, an amplifier, toiletries and groceries were stolen.

• Clothes and groceries were stolen during a break-in at a home along Lower Road in Minnebron.
