SAPS host Heritage Day imbizo

The stakeholders addressed community members before treating them to boerewors rolls and burgers.

Brakpan SAPS and other stakeholders held a community crime awareness imbizo braai on Heritage Day at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.

The stakeholders that helped organise the event were Brakpan CPF, EMPD, the Department of Social Development and local businesses. This was an informal event where the community could highlight issues about crime and service delivery.

Brakpan SAPS interim station commander Colonel Eugene Scheepers, along with Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo and Vispol support head Lieutenant Colonel Pearl van Staad attended the event.

Scheepers addressed the community regarding crime and hotspots, before encouraging collaboration between stakeholders and the community to reduce crime in the area.

Sector 1 manager Constable Audrey Buthelezi told the community that such gatherings are necessary for co-operation with the community, and noted the poor attendance with disappointment.

“The community must join the CPF and become part of the crime prevention strategy. Any legal citizen without a criminal record can join,” explained Tinus Jordaan, the Brakpan CPF chairperson.

After the talks, community members were treated to boerewors rolls and burgers, while enjoying some music and soft drinks.
