Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from September 20 to 22.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A vehicle parked at an address along Chestnut Street in Dalpark Ext 6 was broken into. Undisclosed items with a combined value of around R18 200 were stolen.

• Two employees at an automotive business along Voortrekker Road were tied up during a robbery.
The pair was working on a vehicle at around 09:00 when a brown Ford Fiesta arrived.

Two men were inside the Fiesta, which they parked nearby. One of the men then approached the employees and told them he needed assistance with the Fiesta.

An employee accompanied the man to go and check the car. As they approached the vehicle, the man pointed a gun at the employee, grabbed him and told him to comply.

He then led the employee to a storeroom, where the man’s accomplice had already taken the employee’s colleague. The employees were bound with cable ties and the men started taking vehicle batteries.

It is reported around 80 batteries were stolen with an estimated value of R150 000. The employees were later rescued by customers who heard their shouts for help.

• A pedestrian was robbed of his cellphone by a lone thief along Tinker Road in Brenthurst at about 15:20.
The victim was first approached by the man along Porter Avenue when he asked to use the victim’s cellphone.

They walked together for some time before the man pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the victim if he didn’t hand over the phone.

Saturday – A home in Wenden Avenue, Dalview, was burgled of a TV, a cellphone, shoes and other valuables.
Entry was gained to the residence by forcing open a sliding door.

Sunday – Clothing, bedding and electronics were stolen during a break-in at a house along Frere Avenue.
A solar inverter and battery were also stolen, and a gate motor was tampered with.
