Taxi rank gets a Clean Brakpan makeover

The taxi rank has been transformed into a pristine space.

Civic pride has been restored to the Brakpan Taxi Rank thanks to the determined efforts of Clean Brakpan.

The group spent Monday and the majority of last week tending to the area, clearing it of weeds, litter and other rubbish.

Lisa Jordaan, co-founder of Clean Brakpan, told the Brakpan Herald they have received a number of requests for a clean-up of Station Road.

“The whole area is an eyesore so we decided to tackle the taxi rank as that is where the community is most affected by the filth,” she said.

Taxi commuters and drivers now have a picture perfect clean environment.

“We hope the taxi associations can engage with their members and encourage them to take pride in their place of business and keep the area clean for their own sake and that of their passengers.

“The dumping of car oil into the drains is such a bad environmental issue that really must be taken on by whoever is in charge of that.”

Jordaan added that people must start taking responsibility for their own littering actions and abuse of the environment.

“You can’t blame the government for everything. Yes, we pay council taxes to clean, but surely people are also responsible for their bad habits? That is not on government, that is on each of us and is basic common sense and respect.”

Clean Brakpan continues to appeal to the community and local businesses to join them in making a difference in the town. Jordaan explained they are again down to their last week of funds.

“Projects will have to halt again this Friday,” she said.
