ATM gang targets Brenthurst petrol station

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

Brenthurst residents were jolted awake by an explosion during the early morning hours (Monday) after ATM bombers targeted a local petrol station.

According to police information, a gang of around 15 armed men stormed the Caltex garage at the corner of Prince George Avenue and Olympia Road sometime between 02:00 and 02:30.

A cashier reported that one of the men pointed a gun at her through a window and told her to open the door.

She obeyed the instruction and the gunman stood in the doorway where he further ordered her to put money and cigarettes in a basket and bring it to him.

He then told the cashier to go to the toilet and stay there. The cashier told police she heard more people outside.

Petrol attendants were gathered in the hut on the premises when the robbers pounced. They were forced to lie down and heard the explosion shortly afterwards.

It is reported the robbers fired shots as they fled the scene. The value of the stolen cigarettes and money, from both the shop and ATM, has not been disclosed.
