High-flying fun for a worthy cause

The weekend got off to a flying start with the Fly-Mu fundraiser at the Brakpan Airfield.

Exhilarating entertainment was the order of the day at the Fly-Mu annual charity fundraiser held at the Brakpan Airfield on Saturday.

The event was a combination of aircraft, live music and custom and classic cars. With helicopter rides, a craft market, delicious food, children’s entertainment and other attractions, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Droves of people attended this unique community event in support of a worthy cause.

The masonic charity fundraiser was in aid of the Abraham Kriel Bambanani Benoni Satellite House, which homes young girls between the ages of four and 18 years of age, and other charities in need of support.

Fly-Mu, originally a combination of flying and music, is the brainchild of Fanie Bezuidenhout, who lost his life in an aeroplane crash at the Springs Airfield in October.

As a Freemason and member of Edward H Croghan Lodge 247 of the Irish Constitution, Bezuidenhout combined his passion for aviation, music and charity to launch an event for the benefit of the girls of the Abraham Kriel Bambanani Benoni Satellite House and many other needy charitable organisations.

The lodge also supports other societies that care for the homeless and the aged. The members of Edward H Croghan now continue Bezuidenhout’s legacy by presenting Fly-Mu, now in its fifth year.

Sean Nienaber, Steward of Charities from Edward H Croghan Lodge, acknowledged members of the Brakpan Aero Club and Jason Seymour from the Aircraft Finance Corporation for their generous donations and fundraising efforts on the day.
