Large events require approval from SAPS

An application form can be found online.

Brakpan SAPS has requested that businesses and other organisations apply to large events under the SASREA Section 6(3), application for event risk categorisation, when hosting significant gatherings.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Pearl van Staad from Vispol Support, the reason for these applications is to allow SAPS and EMPD to devote resources to managing traffic and safety around big events by giving notice of an event happening.

During last week’s SAPS stakeholders meeting, questions were raised regarding events on private property with private parking.

It was clarified that organisers of events on private property still need to apply, as people affect traffic outside of the premises going into or coming out of the event.

Crimes like drunk driving, public drinking and others still occur after people leave the premises. A Section 6(3) form can be found online by searching ‘Ekurhuleni section 6(3) form’.

It is also important to ensure that the number of people who attend an event do not exceed the capacity for the event, in case of emergencies.
