Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from July 19 to 21.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A white Nissan 1400 was stolen from an address along Springs Road in Kenleaf. The bakkie was later recovered in Katlehong.

• A handbag containing bank cards, and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a residence in Tweedy Park.

• A home in Short Road, Rand Collieries, was burgled of TVs, a computer and a bicycle.

• Taps, copper pipes, a gas geyser, a 19kg gas cylinder and other valuables were stolen from a home along Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

• A man was assaulted with an iron rod and robbed of his cellphone and R3 800 cash. The incident took place along Wenden Avenue at around 10:30.

The victim was called to the address to meet up with someone when he was ambushed. There were at least three men involved in the attack.

• The driver of white Kia pick-up was robbed of the vehicle by the occupants of a grey Volkswagen Polo along Strauss Street in Van Eck Park at around 11:30.

The driver was approaching a stop sign when he saw the Polo stopped ahead. A man was standing on the roadside next to the vehicle. As the driver slowed down, another man got out of the Polo and approached him.

He pointed a gun at the driver. Another man then opened the Kia’s passenger door, climbed in and directed the driver to a secluded area near Dalpark Ext 1. The Polo and its other occupants were waiting for them when they arrived.

The driver was then placed in the Polo and his face was covered. He was driven to the Wattville Cemetery and released.

In addition to the truck, three parcels – the contents of which were not disclosed – were also stolen.

• Dinner for a Germains Avenue couple and the man’s mother was ruined when their evening braai was interrupted by house robbers.

Three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, gained access to the house at around 21:00. The husband, who had been outside manning the braai, was followed by the trio when he headed indoors.

Once inside the house, they instructed the man, his wife and mother to lie on the floor.

They demanded money and wanted to know the whereabouts of the safe. After retrieving money from a bedroom, the robbers fled, also taking a TV and a laptop.

Saturday – A man was stabbed and robbed along Northdene Avenue. The victim had returned home from a friend’s house at around around 01:00 and was opening the front gate when he was attacked from behind.

He was thrown to the ground and two men started kicking him. A third man attacked him with a knife and he sustained injuries to his head and shoulder.

The trio ran off with the victim’s cellphone and wallet. The victim sought medical attention at the Far East Rand Hospital.

• Cash, a kettle and jewellery were stolen during a break-in at a home along Ajax Road in Dalview.

• A car parked at an address in Bloomberg Street, Minnebron, was stripped of its wheels.

Sunday – The body of a man was found in an open area along Station Road. Police were called to the scene just after 12:00. The responding officer found a bloodied shirt and jacket next to the body.

The deceased sustained injuries to his upper chest and lower back. The body was taken to the Springs Mortuary.

The deceased has been identified and a murder docket was opened.

• A TV was stolen during a burglary at a home along Colliery Road in Sunair Park.
