Court gives cable thief 15 years

Sipho Khoza faced the long arm of the law.

Sipho Khoza (24) from Wattville was arrested on February 2, 2022, after stealing 12 lengths of copper cables belonging to Telkom, each around 6m long, in Brakpan.

He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on June 20, 2024, for a count of tampering with essential infrastructure and a count of theft. He received 15 years for each count, to be served at the same time.

Khoza first appeared in court on March 16, 2022, and was released on bail. He then pleaded not guilty to both counts during his next appearance on June 7 and was found guilty on all counts on June 19.
