Join forces in the fight against crime

Police have appealed to the community and other stakeholders to work with SAPS.

The Brakpan SAPS is calling on members of the public, businesses and other law enforcement agencies within the area to join hands.

This is with the intention to eradicate crime in the town and create a safer environment for everyone.

“With the rising number of house burglaries, thefts, hijackings, theft out of motor vehicles, house and business robberies, the SAPS is appealing for a collaboration between stakeholders which will increase and strengthen the hand of the law against criminality,” said Constable Audrey Buthelezi, Brakpan SAPS corporate communications officer.

“Community members and business owners are encouraged to participate by forming groups that will take turns in patrols.

“There are already members of the community patrolling their areas, especially during the night and in the early hours of the morning, which is when criminals are more active.

“Other law enforcement agencies are also hands-on in the fight against crime and working closely with the SAPS.”

According to Buthelezi, members of the community can form groups per street and make sure no stranger invades their territory.

“Know your neighbours and have their contacts on your emergency list. Familiarise yourself with your neighbourhood to quickly notice when something is wrong.

“The street patrols will not only combat crime but also encourage humanity,” she advised.

Buthelezi also requested business owners to comply with regulations, especially those regarding opening and closing times.

She encouraged businesses to discuss ways to enhance security on and around their premises with their security providers.

“The SAPS is urging the community to assist in the fight against crime because we believe two hands are better than one. Teamwork is dreamwork,” she concluded.
